Accessibility statement

Our target and current status

We are working toward the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA. We have not completed an independent, full-site accessibility audit and do not currently claim full conformance with that standard.

Measures we are taking

• Using WCAG 2.2 Level AA as the target for new and revised public pages.
• Improving page headings, landmarks, labels, link purpose, keyboard operation, visible focus, text contrast, and responsive layouts.
• Providing a keyboard-accessible skip link on public pages so visitors can bypass repeated navigation.
• The home page recently curated publications carousel includes a visible Pause/Resume control, and automatic movement starts paused when a visitor's browser or operating system requests reduced motion.
• Including accessibility checks in public-page testing and documenting limitations that are not yet resolved.
• Prioritizing reported problems that prevent someone from finding, understanding, or using research content.

Language access

RSRC's public pages are currently authored in English. Visitors may use translation features built into their browser or assistive software to read pages in another language.

When a public library search appears to be written in another language, the site can interpret the query as English search terms while keeping the original query visible. An accepted interpretation is shown with the results. This automated feature can improve discovery but may mistranslate a query, and it does not translate the site interface, publication records, or linked research papers. Language access is part of making the research easier to use, but it is not presented as evidence of WCAG conformance. More detail is available in the research methodology.

Known limitations

We are currently addressing the following limitations:

• Some library search and filter layouts can become cramped on small screens or at high zoom. Interactive search behavior has not yet been fully tested across screen-reader and browser combinations.
• Color contrast, keyboard focus, zoom, and reflow have not yet been manually verified on every public page.
• Research papers and other resources hosted by publishers or third parties are outside our control and may have their own accessibility barriers.

We will update this list as barriers are confirmed or resolved. A limitation listed here does not mean that other barriers cannot exist.

Assessment approach

This statement was prepared after an internal review of public templates and content, responsive checks on representative desktop and mobile layouts, and preliminary keyboard testing. This was not a comprehensive WCAG audit and did not include testing by disabled users or a complete screen-reader and browser matrix.

Technical information

The site is built with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript and is designed for current versions of major browsers and common assistive technologies. JavaScript supports the mobile menu, library filters, and other interactive features. We have not yet published a formally tested browser and assistive-technology compatibility matrix.

Please include the page address, a short description of the problem, and, if you are comfortable sharing it, the browser, device, or assistive technology you were using. Do not include sensitive personal information or details of a scam case. We will acknowledge accessibility reports, prioritize barriers that block access, and explain the next remediation step when one is available.

Scope

This statement applies to public content at romancescamresearch.org. It does not cover websites, documents, or services operated by publishers and other organizations that we link to, but you may still tell us when an external resource prevents access to information you found through RSRC.
